I came in with my son today and Khadija was amazing, so patient, made us feel super welcome and was very good with my son especially. As soon as we walked in she was very attentive, giving as many samples as we wanted, and letting us find the exact right flavor. Such a lovely experience with such a pleasant worker!

Van Leeuwen has a cult-like following and it is easy to see why when you visit their Jersey City location, where the ice cream shop is filled inside and out with smiling customers. You get that, “want it, gotta have it” feeling at when you arrive, finding it full of eager ice cream loves waiting their turn. Jersey City is the perfect place for experiences like this, because it’s ice cream is at the center of many of the simple things in life — a social gathering and of course ice cream that together make life great. The happy mood inside the shop is bolstered by bright lighting and colors that have you thinking of milky ice cream and the many toppings that you can choose from. The line moves fast enough to please your palate , but slow enough to build anticipation for what awaits. To be sure, you can find lower prices at gelato places in Italy and many other ice cream places. Yet for the all-around experience, especially in Jersey City, this is the place to be, especially on those beautifully warm summer nights, though it certainly can be savored all year round.

I paid over $8 for this tiny cup of tart froyo. While it tasted good, I’d recommend going to downtown yogurt around the corner to support a local business and for better value, ability to customize toppings, and also better taste.

My family and I reached out to Van Leeuwen Jersey City to see if we could have a private party for our 3 year old. As far as we knew, Van Leeuwen didn't do private parties, but it was worth a shot! We wanted something really close and chill and would work for 15-20 local 3 yr olds and their parents. We worked out an agreement with the store manager Allen, who agreed to staff his store for an ice cream party from 11-1 on a Saturday in November. TLDR - It was a blast! With Dorithy and Cindy behind the counter, all of our guests got whatever they wanted to their heart's desire. The party shifted between the store interior and the sidewalk tables outside. We did make sure that all the parents were on watch for traffic going down Grove. Anyway, the event turned out to be great timing because, even if the toddlers missed their afternoon nap, they weren't getting a lot of sugar before bedtime. We knew that the Van Leeuwen brand was going to guarantee great ice cream, but how lucky we are to have such amazing staff here in our neighborhood. Can't wait to be back for a normal, regular ice cream with the three of us!
